How is vegan wine created?

The winemaking process for vegan wines is much the same as for regular wines, but with a few small tweaks. The first step is to choose the right grapes (i.e., ones that have not been treated with animal-based products such as egg whites or fish bladders). At Doom Juice Wine, we've found other ways of clarifying and stabilising the wine.

Once the grapes have been selected, they’re crushed and fermented into juice. During this process, yeast is able to convert the sugar in the juice into alcohol. In order to produce a vegan wine, it's essential to use a vegan-friendly yeast strain.

After fermentation is complete, the wine is strained and bottled. Some vegan wines may also be filtered using plant-based materials such as clay or diatomaceous earth, rather than animal-based products like gelatin.

With a few simple changes, we believe that it’s easy to make vegan wine that is every bit as delicious as its traditional counterpart!

How long does it take to create vegan wine?

On average, it takes about four to six weeks for our Doom Juice Wine winemakers to create a commercially viable vegan wine. This includes the time it takes to grow and harvest the grapes, crush them, ferment the juice, age the wine, and bottle it. This means that it'll be ready to refresh your taste buds in no time!
